Yes, another year of volunteering at the annual Textile Center’s garage sale. It’s a wonderful fundraising cause and great fun. Scores of volunteers, mountains of donated fabric, notions, yarn, projects, looms, and everything you can think of related to textiles. My phone was buried in my purse which was buried in a pile of fabric, so I forgot to take pictures as I wanted to this year. But it looks like chaos at the start of the day and ends with everything in organized areas–but piled 6 feet high!
One of the perks of volunteering is that after your shift is over you can shop! Here are some of the treasures I found:
vintage rayon seam binding (thrilled doesn’t capture it, all of this for $1) and lots of vintage lace (no photos)
French provincial fabrics
and paisleys that I just couldn’t resist (wool on the right and velvet on the left)
I’ve cleared out some space in my fabric storage area, and already started a pile of donations to the 2015 sale. One of the most enjoyable aspects of this volunteering is rubbing elbows with all the other women who are crazy “makers” too–knitters, weavers, crocheters, needlepointers, tatters, quilters, gown makers, flag makers, costumer makers, embroiderers, beaders, upholsterers, etc. It’s a wonderful crowd of hard workers. And the bargains are not to be beaten anywhere!
