Well, we’ve been in the new house for a little over a month now. The day before we moved, I missed a stair while carrying boxes and broke my foot! Bad timing. But a month late, after crutches and a giant orthopedic boot, I’m bootless again. Maybe not ready to dance, but relieved to be this far along. The human body is amazing.
The foot has slowed me down, which was probably a good thing…but certainly not stopped me. The renovations took two months longer than expected (lesson learned) and a bunch of other house-related stuff (carpet cleaning, window cleaning, etc.) has been dragging on. But little by little areas are taking shape.
As I mentioned before, we renovated the master bedroom–took out closets and a window seat, enlarged the master bath, and built a walk-in closet–then painted it white and put in a grey yew floor. This is the room before we bought the house, youc an see one of the two little closets we dismantled in the foreground, and then the redo in progress.
This is as close to a Swedish Cottage as this house will allow! It turned out really well. I love the space, which is big enough for a couch and giant wicker chair, as well as a king sized bed and a bunch of furniture. It’s still a work in progress, but we’re coming along. We just got the two wool rugs down and that feels good!
Some of our former furniture works in this house, but many pieces didn’t. Glad we sold as much as we did before we moved. I’ve been refinishing furniture for the bedroom like mad, and am in the midst of creating a tufted headboard right now. Two of the chests in the room were from my mom and dad’s bedroom decades ago. My 93-year-old mom stripped them when she was 89 so they were all ready to go. I used Cottage Paint (like Chalk Paint) in Driftwood and Antique White, with a dark wax finish.
The bedroom is going to take a while to come together, but I’ve got certain parts of it pretty much done. More updates and recent decor photos of the house to come!
Now that winter’s nearly here, I’m keen to get crafting again, too. So, there will be more antiqued reliquaries and other projects in the mix too.
Here’s the inspirational view out our bedroom window, taken last month. For the past week, the lake has welcomed 6 huge swans who look like giants amid the many kinds of water fowl out there.
