Pastel aged books

Yet another way to recycle old hardcovers. These are from a thrift store.

Paint the covers and edges with lavender or rose acrylic paint. Then use the gel medium method to transfer antique French book cover illustrations (black and white) onto the front cover and ornamental designs on the spine and back cover. Use white gesso to mottle the covers and spray with waterproof finish. I like the looks and grainy texture of these so much I’m working on two blue ones now. (Tip: Print your reverse b/w images on a lightweight paper that’s close to the color of the covers.) I think these would be lovely tied together with pastel ribbons.
